Rudder Return Springs

I found some 1"x12"x.080" springs at our local Tractor Supply on clearance.  I've been looking for rudder return springs but everything is too small around or long so I bought these to cut down. Thanks to Ron Jones' build log for the Tractor Supply tip.  I ended up getting both rudder springs from 1 long spring by cutting off both ends at the correct length (approximately 1.25" coil section on my plane).  I had to leave the spring 1/2 to 1 coil long so I could bend the coil out and make another hooked end.  There are several resources on the net that describe how to do this, most recommend using "looping pliers" however I found that smooth nosed duckbill pliers and a screwdriver work fine.  Just DO NOT use heat!  The idea is to pry and bend up the last loop, 1/2-3/4 for a hook end or 1-1.5 loops for a looped end.  You then bend the hook/loop around towards the middle of the spring and twist so you get the alignment you need.
